Scarlett Johansson (born November 22 1984 New York City New York, U.S.) American actor and performer whose performance versatility earned her praise across a range of styles from period dramas to thrillers and action. Johansson is the daughter of an architect and producer was brought up within New York City. She and her twin brother Hunter were the youngest siblings of four. When she was just seven an old, the actress began making auditions for TV commercials. Then she began her studies at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute and later attended the Professional Children's School in Manhattan to further hone her craft. Johansson made her debut an actress on film in North (1994) when she was nine. At eight, she was a part of Ethan Hawke on Off-Broadway in Sophistry. Johansson then appeared on screen in Just Cause, but she made her debut with Manny & Lo, a film that follows orphaned siblings as they run away. Then, she was awarded critical praise for portraying a teenage girl who had experienced an accident which resulted in her being damaged as she appeared in The Horse Whisperer (1998). The film gained her more acclaim for her performance in Ghost World (2002) as the cynical outcast Rebecca.
